Flickr Video: Stop complaining.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, Flickr launched their much-anticipated video feature. Die hard photogs launched complaints about it, saying that Flickr is for photos, not videos.

These aren’t videos. These are moving pictures. Let me explain it to you.

You can only load a 90s clip up to Flickr. You precious Flickr isn’t going to degrade to Youtube anytime soon. The way the 90s videos fall inline with the photos is ingenious. How many times have you looked at a photo on and wished you could experience more? I have countless times. These little videos allow users to get a little more of the experience a photographer was trying to express in a photo. A picture of an awesome store is one thing. Getting to feel 90 seconds of it is another. Sure, you’ll get some things in there that aren’t really that great, but the possibilities for this feature far outweigh the cons.

iJustine sums it up pretty good.

  • New Viddler Video Plugin!

(Video: Viddler’s Featured Video for April 11, 2008 - Snippet No. 3 by gamwyn)

No, that’s not my video, but it does let me demonstrate a cool feature in the new Viddler Video Commenting plugin for Wordpress 2.5.

The new Write Post area of Wordpress contains a nifty Add Media section where you can choose videos, images, and sound clips to embed in your posts. Colin Devroe’s (from Viddler) Video Commenting Plugin adds, among many other things, an extra tab for Viddler. From this tab, you can bring in featured videos, choose one of your own, or even create a whole new video right in your Wordpress admin area. Since it’s powered by Viddler, you get to take advantage of all the inline commenting features Viddler’s known for. The plugin also makes it really easy for your commenters to join the conversation.

Check it out at the Viddler Lab
